Training Overview

I-9 flexibility extended to October. Learn how to verify employment eligibility under current rules.

The Department of Homeland Security extended the procedural flexibility for verification of I-9 forms until October 31, 2022. With this regulation change, now is an ideal time to revisit your policies and procedures for handling these documents that confirm employees’ identities and employment authorization.

An employer or an authorized representative must complete Section 2 of the I-9 form. For new employees who will work in-person, you must physically examine the eligibility documentation and sign the form. More flexibility remains for remote workers. With the evolving requirements, you likely need a refresher.

  • How should you adapt to comply with the extension?
  • What documents must employees present?
